Paving the way for the Living Labs

24/10/2025

On October 23rd 2025, the city of Teramo hosted the opening event of Active Abruzzo 2025, the annual initiative organized by CNA Turismo Abruzzo to promote active holidays and experiential tourism. The forum, titled “Active holidays, widespread hospitality, food and wine: this is the Abruzzo that attracts,” marked the launch of the 2025 edition, officially recognized as a “regional initiative of interest” by the Abruzzo Region and the Chambers of Commerce of Gran Sasso d’Italia and Chieti-Pescara.

This was the first raise awareness public seminar of the project Libeccio, designed to increase interest around the EuroMed Tourim Innovation Platform (ETIP) and participation in the Data Management Support System (DMSS) testing phase, paving the way to the implementation of the Living Labs.

Held in the Sala Ipogea of Piazza Garibaldi, the event served as a true laboratory of ideas, gathering institutional representatives, tourism experts, entrepreneurs, educators, and journalists to discuss strategies for enhancing Abruzzo’s excellence in sustainable tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality.

Within this dynamic context, CNA Abruzzo presented the Living Labs concept as developed under the LIBECCIO Project. Introduced by Mirco Mirabilio, the Living Labs were described as open innovation ecosystems where institutions, tourism operators, researchers, and citizens collaborate to co-create and test sustainable solutions in real-world settings.

The “Seven Sisters” coastal municipalities of Teramo will serve as pilot territories for these Living Labs, which will integrate and test the DMSS.

During the session, tourism stakeholders were also invited to join the ETIP and to actively participate in the Living Labs activities, fostering continuous collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in sustainable destination management.

Following the forum, an aperitif and networking session encouraged participants to exchange ideas and build partnerships, reinforcing the cooperative spirit of Active Abruzzo.
