What we do

Through digital transformation, Libeccio aims at addressing some of the main challenges faced by Tourism in the Mediterranean area. The lack of resilience to unforeseeable risks, the rigidity of its governance in responding and mitigating them, the need to provide more timely information to tourism policy and decision makers are all hindering factors, in relation to a more sustainable development of the Sector.
Libeccio means to respond to the need for a better destination management, supporting policy makers with an informed and data-based decision-making process, positively impacting the implementation of policies for a more sustainable tourism paradigm. Sustainability is here interpreted as multi-faceted: environmental, social and economic.

Focus

Work Package 1

During this phase, a feasibility study is carried out, detailing modifications and improvements to develop the Destination Management Support System. DMSS is the project main tool, at the heart of the Euro med Tourism Innovation Platform. It addresses improved tourist destination management, integrating sustainability indicators and Big Data, so as to have timely analysis and decision support, benefiting policy and decision makers at regional and local level.
Equipped with intuitive interfaces and apps for data collection and processing, it offers services for:

  • Collection, management, and sharing of tourist data.
  • Tourism policies sustainability (economic, social, and environmental) impact assessment at destination and district levels.
  • Operational support for destination and district entities, improving decision-making in strategies, service quality policies and tourism marketing actions.

Work Package 2

In this second phase, user requirements and functional specifications are converted into technical ones, developing a web platform that meets them. DMSS’s functionalities are then tested through activation in real-world settings through single Living Labs.
The territories involved in the testing, population and transfer activities are the following:
• The tourist seaside district of the Emilia-Romagna Region (Italy)
• The coastal area of the Abruzzo region (Italy)
• The coastal/maritime areas of western Greece
• Specific areas of natural and cultural interest in the district of Terrassa (Spain)
• The coastal/sea areas of the Municipality of Kotor (Montenegro)
• Specific areas of natural and cultural interest in the Burgas district (Bulgaria)
• The territory of eastern Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina)
• Postojna Cave – protected natural areas of the Green Karst (Slovenia)

Work Package 3

In this final phase, local ETIP members evaluate DMSS tests, drawing learnings and devising a plan for embedding the ETIP platform and DMSS into local systems post-project, overcoming challenges for a sustainable, resilient tourism model.
ETIP, meant as a platform connecting 4Helix Tourism stakeholders (enterprises, research institutes, public authorities and civil society) of the Mediterranean area, here is meant to be fully developed.
Capitalization is aimed at offering widespread advantages to Euro-Mediterranean Quadruple Helix, across public administrations, academia, business support organisations, local agencies and civil society.
